1. El Manantial

This spot is a local favorite, and is one of the oldest cantinas in San Miguel de Allende. When you arrive, walk through the swinging wooden doors and straight into the old-world Mexican restaurant. With the well-stocked bar and high-ceilings, it is almost impossible to go wrong. We recommend the smoked-marlin tacos and ceviche tostadas, and a shot of mezcal if you’re feeling dangerous.

2. La Azotea

La Azotea has wonderful food and ambiance to die for. It is located upstairs (which does make it difficult to find), but you’ll be delighted by the spectacular views of the main church and dramatic views.

We recommend their famous jicama tacos filled with fresh shrimp paired with a spicy jalapeno margarita.

3. Quince

Quince has been voted the #1 best place for rooftop dining in the world, and the view does not disappoint.

Not only does the restaurant feature breathtaking views of San Miguel, but the food and drinks are delightful. The restaurant is well known for their cocktails and sushi. We recommend the Truffle Tuna Sashimi.

4. Bovine

Bovine has one of the best atmospheres in the entirety of San Miguel de Allende. It is eclectic and sophisticated, with dark leather banquettes next to gold tables and art deco pieces on the walls.

In one of the cheekiest displays we’ve seen – the restaurant features a neon “I’m a classy mother fucker” sign.

If the name didn’t tip you off – this spot is known for its steak. To start, we recommend the oysters or smoked salmon. For mains checkout the grilled ribeye or the Côte beouf, which has been aged for 45 days. If you’re not a fan of red meat, try the grilled octopus or pan-roasted fish.

5. La Única

This is another top restaurant with an excellent rooftop view. We recommend trying a variety of their tacos, including steak with bone marrow or suckling pig. You can also find more exotic menu items such as chili crusted tuna steaks and platillos.
